Stay on target.  Wait for it.  Hold on.  Just a bit longer now.  I imagine that we’ve all had someone tell us those things from time to time.  And it’s the piece of advice that none of us really wants to hear.  We expect, I think, that if we heed such advice we might just end up like those ill-fated Y-Wing pilots:  blasted to bits on the first trench run.

Most of the time when we think about waiting on God or heaven or the New Earth, we tend to assume that 1) waiting comprises only a portion of the Christian life and 2) that waiting is best done on stoic terms.  It doesn’t even occur to us as a possibility that not only is waiting for consummation a lifelong endeavor but that waiting is best done when it involves all of our mind, body, soul, and feeling.  Or that waiting is a form of rest.

With that thought in mind, I want to introduce a four part blog series called “Wait For It: Heaven Breaking In.”  This four part series will focus on the different aspects of our need for a bright tomorrow and will be comprised of blogs by four different authors.  My hope is that this series will highlight the importance of waiting for and relying on the power of Jesus and heaven for daily life.  The blogs are:

Part 1: Once More Into The Breachby Brian A. Mesimer
Looking to the coming of the Son of Man keeps us going in the daily grind.

Part 2:Echoes of Reconciliation” by Brewer Eberly
How recovering the lost art of remembering can help us see Jesus more clearly.

Part 3:Of Bag End, Rivendell, and the Longing for Home” by Ryan Bowen
Our real home gives us joy to keep on keeping on in our temporary home.

Part 4:The Journey is Too Great For You” by Andrew Barber
Realizing that we can’t do it on our own creates intimacy with God and holiness.

So enjoy, and may you find these helpful!

Brian
