The Absolute Meaninglessness of Anything Without Chirst

Have you ever wondered exactly how meaningless everything is that does not have Christ at its center? I know that pretty much goes without saying these days. Take a look at big box Christian stores such as Christian Supply: not only can you find books and teaching stuff there, you can also find Christian t-shirts, home décor, cards, candles, music, and even Christian mints. Yes, they call them ‘Testamints.” Cute.

I’m not quite talking about that kind of stuff here. Let it suffice to say that when Peter went and built a tent, it wasn’t a ‘Christian’ tent…it was just a well-built tent that honored Christ because it was well built. But still, this whole phenomenon of trying to impute meaning to things like t-shirts and mints is representative, even if in a poor way, of the absolute fact that without Christ, nothing has any meaning.

Without Christ, we cannot begin to talk about morals, ethics, or philosophy. Take Christ out of the equation, and you have no real foundation with which to define anything. You or I cannot get in front of people and tell them what is right and wrong if we do not speak from the authority of scripture and Christ, i.e., God’s revelation. That is to say that the only thing we can know for sure is our belief in God and what He has revealed to us. So while ‘Christian t-shirts’ per se might be a general misapplication of the doctrine of the Kingdom, you can find no meaning outside of Christ. We would do well to remember that.
